ARRANGEMENTS FOR DR NELSON MANDELA’S MEMORIAL AND FUNERAL SERVICES

African National Congress Secretary General Gwede Mantashe will be delivering the keynote address at the Eastern Cape Memorial Service that will be held at the award-winning Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium from 9am on Friday, 13 December.
Reverend Andile Mbete from THE Anglican Church of Southern Africa will lead the memorial service and national artists Zahara, Lusanda, Eastern Cape Gospel Talent and other artists will get the unique opportunity for a musical tribute to the first democratically elected President of South Africa. Church leaders are requested to encourage their members to wear church uniforms to the Provincial Memorial Service, use their buildings as Assembly Points. The provincial government together with the municipality are currently making transport arrangements which will be made available in due course.


Public Mourning Areas


Public Mourning Areas have been identified where live screenings will take place from Tuesday, 10 December until after the funeral service on 15 December. Condolence Books will be placed at all the Public Mourning Areas as well.
These sites are as follows:
Kuyga Community Hall (Greenbushes), Seaview Community Hall, Colchester Community Hall, Daku Hall, Nangoza Jebe Hall, Booysens Park Community Hall, George Botha Community Hall, Nelson Mandela Peace Park and Wells Estate Complex, Allanridge Community Hall, Babs Madlakane Community Hall, Despatch Town Hall, Port Elizabeth City Hall Auditorium, Walmer High School, Red Location Museum and the Helenvale Resource Centre.


Live broadcast of National Memorial Service


ANC Nelson Mandela Regional Secretary Zandisile Qupe called on the public to honour Dr Nelson Mandela, who always emphasized that South Africans from all walks of life should unite, by viewing the live broadcast from the FNB Stadium of the National Memorial Service tomorrow (Tuesday, 10 December).

The body of Dr Nelson Mandela will lie in state from 11 to 13 December at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The only municipality in the world named after the international icon, Dr Nelson Mandela, will conduct a memorial service for its employees starting at 1pm.


13 December


The Eastern Cape Memorial Service takes place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.


14 December


The remains of Dr Mandela arrive in Mthatha. The Mthatha Airport has been closed for the public as it will be reserved for the arrival and departure of visiting Heads of State and other high-ranking officials.
A candle light memorial will be held at the Uitenhage Market Square. Transport will be provided for this event.


15 December


This is the day of the Official State Funeral of Dr Nelson Mandela in Qunu. Members of the public from all racial groups are invited to show a united front at all the public viewing areas in Nelson Mandela Bay as access to Qunu will be restricted and no transport will be provided for those who wish to go there.
